Have you always wanted a more symmetrical and beautiful smile? If so, you may have considered porcelain veneers, but hesitated for fear of how they would require damaging your natural teeth. For years, many cosmetic dentists had to heavily file down healthy teeth, in order to place veneers in a natural-looking way. But thanks to advancements by ceramicists, it is now possible to enjoy all the benefits of traditional porcelain veneers, with little or none of the adjustments to the teeth. So if you’ve been delaying cosmetic treatment, now is a wonderful time to explore the benefits of no-prep veneers!
What Sets No-Prep Veneers Apart?
For a long time, porcelain veneers had to be made at least 0.5 mm thick, in order to prevent breaking. And while that may sound incredibly thin, for most patients it still required heavy filing of the teeth in order to affix the veneers in a way that allowed them to sit properly within the smile. However, skilled ceramicists have now found a way to make veneers less than half of that size, as thin as 0.2 mm, roughly the thickness of a contact lens, which means very little, or even no preparation, is now required in order to fit a patient with veneers!
This is great news for patients with healthy teeth, whose only problems are cosmetic. Because it means very little of the natural tooth enamel will be damaged. It also makes the procedure of affixing porcelain veneers less invasive and more comfortable. In fact, many patients do not even require anesthesia, while obtaining no-prep porcelain veneers.
