Smile bleaching

Everyone wants their smile to be beautiful and bright. Over time, our teeth become stained and start to lose their luster. Many people turn to teeth whitening as a method for rejuvenating their smile. Cosmetic dentist, Dr. James Fondriest, discusses the different methods offered to give patients the beautiful, youthful smiles they deserve.

Teeth Whitening at Home

Dr. Fondriest offers patients dramatic teeth whitening from the comfort of their home. While a quick glance at the dental product aisle at any grocery store reveals a variety of whitening options, few over-the-counter teeth whiteners brighten as well as our professional systems.

Nite White is an FDA approved teeth whitening product Dr. Fondriest provides our patients using a custom tray combined with a special bleaching gel. Worn at night, the Nite White systems removes stains left by coffee, cigarettes, and aging. For patients with more sensitive teeth, we use Day White. Unlike Nite White, Day White is worn for thirty minute increments twice a day.

Dr. Fondriest only offers at-home teeth whitening services because many in-office procedures don’t actually remove stains and will dehydrate teeth. In addition, in-office bleaching sometimes causes increased sensitivity and gum irritation.

Keep Your Smile Bright

Whitening your teeth will brighten your smile, but simple preventive dentistry will keep your teeth healthy and white as well. Always brush your teeth at least twice a day and floss once. This removes food particles that allow bacteria to thrive. Bacteria lead to plaque buildup, which stains teeth and eventually causes tooth decay. Rinsing with an antibacterial mouthwash is recommended, too.

Just as important, attend regular checkups with your Lake Forest dentist, Dr. Fondriest. These visits allow Dr. Fondriest and our team to check for the warning signs of developing tooth decay and gum disease. We then take measures to treat the issue, keeping teeth whiter and avoiding the need for costly, invasive measures in the future.
