Keep Your Smile Healthy This Summer with These 5 Tips: Part Three

Keep Your Smile Healthy This Summer

As you head into summer, you are likely already planning precautions to protect your skin against harmful UV rays and your body from dehydration. What are you doing to care for your smile, though? You may already realize that preventive care is crucial to maintaining excellent oral health, but what does preventive care actually entail? Is there more you could be doing to care for your smile? Here are a few more ways to make sure your smile shines this summer.

3. Don’t Take a Vacation from Dental Hygiene.

While traveling, it becomes all-too tempting to skip out on daily dental hygiene, which is essential to maintaining oral health. Unfortunately this can lead to the development of cavities and other dental issues. To prevent this, be sure to brush your teeth after meals, and to floss at least once a day. While on the road, make this easier by keeping a toothbrush and paste close at hand, instead of stuffed at the very bottom of your suitcase.

If you absolutely cannot brush your teeth after every meal, at least drink water which can help rinse away some of the food particles and bacteria. Chewing sugar-free gum can also help clean your teeth, though it is no substitute for brushing or flossing!

4. Use the Time Off to Care for Your Teeth.

Preventive checkups and cleanings are essential to your oral health. Fortunately for many people they also become easier to arrange during the summer months, when schedules tend to become more lax. Take time to schedule your whole family’s cleanings, and make a day of getting this imperative preventive care.

5. Consider Cosmetic Procedures to Make Your Smile Really Shine.

If you really want to dazzle this summer, cosmetic dentistry is a great way to make your smile shine. From simple whitening to more extensive treatments, don’t be afraid to ask your dentist how your smile could be enhanced.
