How to Make Your Dental Appointment More Pleasant (Part 2)

If going to the dentist is a nerve-racking experience for you, it doesn’t need to be. In fact, there are things that you can do to make your dental appointments more pleasant. Dr. James Fondriest, a Lake Forest, IL, dentist, cares about his patients and makes sure that they receive the best service possible in his boutique-style dental practice. The tips that we have for you this week will help make your dental visit an even better experience.

What to Do on the Day of Your Visit

In the last blog, we told you how to plan for your appointment. Today, you will learn how to prepare on the day of your appointment to make the entire experience relaxing:

    • Relax before your appointment. Practice a relaxation technique, like yoga, taking a warm bath, deep breathing, meditation, lighting some aromatherapy candles, taking a nice walk, or listening to your favorite music. You can listen to the music on the way to your appointment as well, and continue the deep breathing while you wait and during your appointment, to help you remain calm.

  • Arrive early to your appointment. Leaving and arriving for your dental appointment early will prevent added stress due to rushing. You will give yourself plenty of time to fill out paperwork, and you can read a book or magazine while you wait to meet with your dentist.
  • Bring items that will make you comfortable. Bring along your favorite pillow, blanket, book, and CD or DVD (if your dentist has CD or DVD players). And take advantage of all of the small luxuries that your dentist offers.

If you follow these tips, your dental visit can be relaxing, comfortable, and pleasant.
